With the significant surge in demand for facial aesthetic enhancements the impact of the appearance of the smile and dental factors cannot be ignored. The two are inextricably linked and despite excellent facial aesthetic treatment there is nothing more ageing than discoloured, crooked or chipped teeth. Here I discuss the interplay between smile design, orthodontic treatment and facial aesthetics, factors for consideration in treatment planning and the benefits to the patients of a collaborative approach.
